Birmingham Skating to be put on Ice

January 10, 2008

As Birmingham’s Street Ice enters its final weekend, myself and Todd pay them a visit to find out whether Birmingham is in need of a permanant ice rink.

Birmingham has been without its own rink since Planet Ice caught fire back in 2003.

Street Ice Tickets On Sale

T-Mobile Street Ice

T-Mobile Street Ice, the largest temporary outdoor ice rink in the UK, is coming back to Birminghama and tickets are on sale now. Open from November 29 right through the xmas period until January 13, the rink will return to Centenary Square alongside food stalls and bars from the neighbouring Frankfurt Christmas Market.

This year, skaters are able to text in song requests with the ‘Text DJ’ feature, which sounds like a recipe for an endless stream of terrible music chosen by screaming teenage girls. Oh well. Another unfortunate new feature, well for me anyway, is that every skater will be photographed ‘dancing’ on the ice and given a free print to take home. As if I don’t own enough embaressing photos of me breakdancing.

Tickets can be bought from Visit Birmingham and cost between five and seven pounds. The rink is open from 10 in the morning until 10 at night.

Will we be seeing you on the Ice this year? Leave us a comment and we might even come and film you.
