Sugababes Push the Xmas lights Button

Girl band The Sugababes lit up Birmingham in more ways than one with a sensational performance on stage before turning on the festive lights in front of an estimated audience of over 40,000 people.

Millennium Point was truly the place to be last Saturday, with performances from a number of artists, including McFly, Leona Lewis and, of course, The Sugababes, as well as fairground rides, a spectacular firework show and food stalls.

Heather Peebles, a Media student at Birmingham City University, said: “The fireworks were amazing, even better than what we saw at the Alexander Stadium on Bonfire Night.

I don’t particularly like The Sugababes but they put on an amazing show. Scouting for Girls were a bit of a let down though as their sound failed and they struggled through their three songs.

Then we all had to stand around for ages waiting for the show to start again, but the fireworks afterwards more than made up for it.”

The five-hour concert, which was completely free, provided the perfect build up to the big switch on, which saw the girl band turn on the city’s Christmas lights.

Emma Briody, posting on the BRMB website, said: “I took my kids and we all really enjoyed it.

Their favourite was the Sugababes and they were crying to be picked up to see them on the screen, although not as much as they did to see Elliott and Caroline!!

The fireworks were the best I have ever seen!”
